La Dolce Vita..

Matt and I JUST got home from a splendid extended vacation (10 days is the longest vacation we have taken together since we got married in 2007) also like a second honeymoon since we just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary in August.

We started with a day and a half in Venice. For those of you who don't know, one side of my father's family hails from Italy. This made exploring this country particularly interesting and enjoyable for me since it was kind of like getting back to my roots (Matt and I plan to visit Poland and Russia as well in the future to delve into those sides of our families as well)

We took trusty and oh so affordable Ryan Air to get to Venice.. who can argue with a 50 minute flight costing about $100 for the two of us! We then spent the day enjoying the city and the night in a cosy 8 room hotel on the grand canal. What a view this place had!!! Subsequently, we met a couple around our same age as we were leaving the hotel for the second leg of our vacay.. and they were headed the same direction as us.. the Venice Maritime Port to embark the Norwegian Jade for our 7 day cruise of the Adriatic and Mediterranean. I took 1,000 pictures on this vacation so please be sure to check back every couple days.. it is going to take me a while to get them all on here. I am going to start with.. VENICE!!!

On the plane...ready to go.. sooooo happy!

Beautiful view of the Italian Alps from the window!

Almost there!

On a water bus headed to our hotel!

Pretty old wooden boats everywhere!

I took advantage of the water bus as a scenic water tour!

I am hyperventilating at this point.... so excited to be there!

AHH first Gondola sighting!!

amazing!

Finally in our room.. can you believe this was a STEAL at 270 euro a night? Ugh Venice hotel prices are INSANE! It was pretty though.. comfy.. clean.. and free breakfast!

Matt is ready to go out and explore

View from the front of our hotel.. this the the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge to the left

View of the Canal from the bridge..the red awnings show where our hotel is :)

yummy

MORE GONDOLAS!

Real cool Venician Glass Art store..thats all glass btw!

San Marco Square

View of the main waterway from the square..our cruise ship left this way via tug boat :)

See I was REALLY there!

Soo my camera stinks sometimes for night time pictures... it suggests that you use a tripod which I have not invested in yet... and since we were on a gondola ride when I took this the pictures are blurry due to the movement of the water

Our hotel!

View at night..sigh... never gets old

The breakfast area

Our table for two at breakfast over looking the Grand Canal..could this be more romantic???

Soo it rained that night and Matt thought it was so cool that the streets semi-flooded... happens all the time I am sure!

A mini penny!

Fishes were just delivered as we were walking back to the hotel to get our bags... they look thrilled to be on display for lunch!

This guy was still moving! He was crawling all over the flounder!

This was our last view of the Grand Canal before we decided to walk the INSANE labriynth of a city (so Matt could save 14 euro on bus fare) to the main bus station that had a monarail to take us to the port so we could get on the ship! Next up.. the Norwegian Jade and we say arrivederci to Venezia!
