Part II.. A little Bit of Home in Deutchland!

After a wonderful day, we went back to the hotel and promptly had a fashion show of everything that we all bought! Maria was definately the winner with the most beautiful scarves and french designer clothes! Then it was up early for a coffee and a croissant and off to the Louvre!
Entrance to the Louvre from our metro stop

Entering the courtyard!

The pyramid! You actually go DOWN into the pyramid to get into the Louvre!

The Louvre and the surrounding area is spectacular!
Once inside we were on a mission to get Mona Lisa out of the way.. that one painting draws hundreds of visitors to the Louvre each day, so since we got there about 5 minuted after they opened, we figured it would be good to get that out of the way! Then we would have time to "get lost" in the art!

So I have to admit.. I have no idea what this is. Everyone was making a big deal about it, taking pictures, so monkey see monkey do! Mom.. do you know what this is??

Half the fun of the Louvre was the building itself! Look at these ceilings!

Again..no idea what this is..but it was behind glass so I figured it was important!

There she is.. the smiling lady herself..MONA LISA!

So many people cram in to see Mona Lisa that I think they forget about the other paintings in the room.. like this one..which was HUGE! It took up the ENTIRE wall directly across from Mona Lisa!

Once again..LOOK at those ceilings! It is 3 dimensional..not just painted! It has sculpted figures too!

Venus de Milo

We had a great time in the Louvre.. Adrian got the full Parisian experience...meaning she was pick pocketed! Little did they know they only stole a cardigan sweater! Just shows you that you can NEVER let your guard down while traveling! After the Louvre we went to the Arc de Triomphe and some more shopping before heading home!

The rest of the vacation we just putzed around Germany, mainly in Trier and Cologne!

Our yummy dinner after we got back from Paris!

Trier!

Trier!

They had a religious pilgrimage for the 500th anniversary of the "robes" of Christ! They only take out the artifact once every 16 years!
After Trier it was time for Cologne!

THE DOM!

Urn that contains the remains of the "Three Wise Men"

Next.. its off to the Netherlands for the Keukenhof Tulip Festival, Leiden and the North Sea, and Zaanes Schans!
