Vipiteno and Bolzano.. Italia Baby!

Our first day of our Bavarian vacation started with a day trip to Vipiteno and Bolzano Italy! They are right over the German border in the Italian Dolomite mountains. We had a beautiful day to enjoy Italian food, gelato, and shop for italian specialties (leather and wine!!) The first set of pictures are of Vipiteno.

One of the original buildings in the town..

The building behind the fountain that has "crosses" on the front and has a yellowish tint is called the Yellow Cross.  A lot of Nazi higher ups stayed here when they were fleeing the Allies in Germany, on their way to South America.

Cutest, tricked out Fiat I have ever seen!!!

After Vipiteno we went to the larger city of Bolzano to visit "Utzi" aka The Frozen Man, and enjoy the city and all it had to offer!

Remains of a Roman fort

Tour guide let us know, the higher up the mountain terraces you are, the cheaper the land!

Amazing Italian food! Mom had a pasta trio with Spaetzle with speck (an Italian bacon), spinach raviolis, and a bread ball

I had the most amazing pizza in my entire life.. Pizza Diavalo.. had spicy salami, cheese, and sweet peppers.. SO GOOD!

Dad had the house specialty..Lasagna!

Both German and Italian are spoken in these towns over the border since during the war Hitler said they were German, then Mussolini said they were Italian

Notice the town name in German.. Bozner = Bolzano

Street market!
