Normandy

For our Normandy tours, we decided to do two full day tours (Monday and Tuesday). Monday revolved around the D Day invasion sites and Tuesday was following the progression of the American Paratroopers as they advanced the Germans. Monday was gorgeous.. Tuesday we had some rain..hence less pictures! Enjoy!!
Map showing the progression of the Allied troops invasion on Normandy

First stop of the day, a German cemetary in Normandy

The large mound is a mass grave for all of the German soldiers that could not be identified

Cathedral in St Mere Eglise where a US Paratrooper was suspended on the cathedral until he could be taken down

Notice the parachutes that were incorporated in the stained glass.. we saw these everywhere!

Notice the paratroopers in the window

The town square

Dad at the Paratrooper Museum (for those that dont know..my Dad was 82nd Airborne!)

Beautiful sculpture dedicated to the paratroopers.. The French in this region really respect, admire, and adore American Veterans, especially Paratroopers. They 100% feel that their way of life was saved by the honor and service of our Armed forces

Plane remnants left from the war

Utah Beach.. you can see the sun finally came out and the clouds are rolling away!

Marker depicting the "liberation trail"

Stunning..hard to believe so many young Americans died here

German gun still left

Our lunch stop was in a fishing harbor

Mmm crepes!

Hoagie's long lost uncle came to say hello!

Point Du Hoq

Craters from British and American bombings

Bombed German bunnker

Bullet holes inside one of the bunkers.. if the American soldiers could not penetrate the bunker with bullets they often resorted to using flame throwers through the ventilation system

view out the gunners hole

Going into the bunker

Beautiful cliffs the Allied troops had to climb by hand

Point Du Hoq

Matt standing up through the hatch where the gunner would be
