We had a lovely, but HOT day in Italy on Friday, but Saturday was a new adventure. Hitler's Eagles Nest and Berchtesgaden Germany. We were EXTREMELY lucky to have had the beautiful day that we did. Two days prior to our visit it was HAILING in Bavaria and the day we left the whole area was covered in fog. We had a day full of sunshine and spectacular views. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! First stop was for breakfast.. our tour guide informed us that our McDonalds had the BEST view in the world.. what do you think?
The tour officially started after our breakfast stop. First on the agenda was Hitler's Eagles Nest. It is quite a process to get to the top of the mountain. Hitler used the house as a meeting place for dignitaries and high ranking Nazi officials. He never lived at the home, but used it for entertaining. As we all know, he was a bit paranoid so he made it almost impossible to get to this house. You need to take a specialized bus, built with special motors and tires that grab the road since it is so steep, narrow, and windy. There is only enough room for one bus at a time and at multiple locations in the road there is maybe 1 inch of clearance on either side! I sat near the window so I could take some pictures on the way up. The lake you see in the pictures is the Konigsee.
Once you get to the top of the hill you are not there yet! You must take a elevator from a inside a tunnel to the center of the house.
