Off to Nieder Niederlande

Matt and I went off to the Netherlands for my birthday weekend! It was nice to get away for a couple days and not be too far out of our local area. We decided to head up to Leiden, which is in North Holland,  to explore the North Sea area and experience a bit of Dutch life. On Sunday, we headed over to the world famous Keukenhof Tulip Festival. All in all, a great way to start the first couple days of being..eek.. 28!

Happy 28th Birthday Sarah! Matt took this shot of me when we were out to dinner! :)

We are on our way!!

About to cross the border!!

Yey! We are in the Netherlands!

Where we were staying was past Amsterdam!

First windmill sighting!

And another!
It isn't the Netherlands without people on bikes!!

Our room!!

Cool hotel!

Looked like the inside of a cruise ship!

We got two free drinks as a "thank you" for being executive platinum members, I got this yummy fruit beer!

Ocean Bar!

Where we stayed!

After we checked in and looked around a bit, we went searching for Zaanes Schans! It is the Dutch equivalent of Colonial Williamsburg! Saw a lot of cool things on the ride there!
Cool building, looked like a giant was sitting next to the building

Tulip fields!

Matts favorite.. mini horses!

More tulips!

We made it! Walking over to the village

Beautiful windmills!

Zaanes Schans!

Walking over one of the many canals!

Wooden shoe maker!

Wooden tulips! Matt bought me some for the house!

Machinery to make the shoes!

Sooo

Many...

Shoes!!

It was nice to walk around..wish the sun had been out!

Cheese Maker!

This guy was sneaky... he was just hanging out by the door

And someone let him in! Not us, I promise! On the way out we saw a sign that had a picture of this chicken saying "Do not let him in!" He hangs outside the cheese factory trying to get in, smart chicken!

Cute dutch girl!

Mmmm so many cheeses! We bought the Orange Holland cheese and a hot & spicy cheese! It was hard to choose!

A lot of the buildings looked very colonial American.. definately was able to make the connection!

Since Matt and I bought some cheese we stopped into this local bakery for some yummy rye bread!

Matt liked this billboard

More tulips!!
Check back for my next  post... The North Sea & the Keukenhof!!
